The Thing About the Doors
So, you have already redecorated your home. The bathroom, kitchen, living room, and bedrooms are all coordinated in a nice style that speaks volumes about your personality while making a statement on art and fashion.
You’ve painted that horrible bland hallway with something warm and that wood paneling in the dining room has gone the way of Disco. You even bought a new couch! But, do you find that something is just not quite right?
You can not put your finger on it but there is something left undone. Could it be the lighting? No, no the new light fixtures are stunning.
Maybe it’s the faucets. No, that brushed nickel looks very nice and elegant. Wait a minute, I believe that it just may be…the doors.
Many interior decorators, especially do it yourselfers, take doors for granted. Actually, everyone does. Doors are such a part of our daily life and yet they blend in with the background so well that we pretty much forget about them.

Chances are you have had in at least one of your homes or apartments those awful particle board doors with the bland knobs that are really just planks of lumber painted and propped against the frame.
Doors do not have to be this way at all. Doors come in a variety of woods such as pine, oak, and walnut, and in a variety of styles. French doors, doors with windows, and simple colonial doors are just some of the many options that are available to you.

If you want to find the right door for you home, exterior or interior there are a few things to consider before you dash off to your local lumber yard.
Match doors to the time period of the home. If you have a home that dates back to the 1920’s try and find a door that captures the vintage feel of the place.
Of course, if you want a striking look to the exterior of your home you can throw this advice to the wind, but it just may make your home look awkward and shoddy so use caution and a keen decorating eye.
Do not adorn your door with a fancy knocker and knobs unless you are going for that more opulent style of Victorian England. If you have decorated your interior in a Mediterranean vibe, find a door to compliment, such a door with warm colors.

When you have decided on the style of door make sure you measure, measure, measure. If you are do it yourselfer, you just may want some help with this as you will be measuring every conceivable portion of the door and door frame.
Doors do not have to be boring. They shouldn’t be, really, as they are the first things visitors and guests to your home will see before entering. So, make a great impression and find a door that suits your style.
