If you've walked into your home lately and been greeted by something other than your spouse, you might want to think about doing a deeper clean.

When smells begin to arise in your home, it's often a sign that you have dirt or bacteria build up in your furniture pieces and in your rugs, causing an odor.

For your health and the healthy of everyone else in your home, it's time to get rid of the stink.

You might want to start by doing a basic cleaning – wiping down surfaces, vacuuming, etc.

This will give you an idea of whether or not the smell is a superficial occurrence or if you need to clean deeper in order to get rid of it.  If this cleaning doesn't help, try upholstery cleaning next to see if maybe the smell is in your couch or chairs.

At the same time, you might also want to have your carpets cleaned.

If none of these tips help, it might be time to have your water pipes and heating and cooling ducts checked.

There may be something in these systems causing the stink, no matter what you do in response.

While there are fabric refreshers and air deodorizers, it's always best to find the root of the problem, instead of just covering it up.
