The Right Color Concrete Used In The Countertop

The choice of the right color will ensure that what you get is suited to the overall theme of the kitchen decoration as well as the lifestyle needs.

Q: We need help in selecting the right concrete countertops. We went shopping last weekend and were floored by the large variety of different kinds of countertops. We have been recommended to use concrete ones because of the unusual shape. Now, the color choice is a concern. My husband is gearing towards a darker shade of brown for the concrete counter – the kind that you find on oak trees. I would much rather prefer lighter shades preferably grays or creamy beige.

However, the doubt that still persists is whether it will take a whole lot of time in the cleaning and maintenance of lighter shade concrete countertops.

P.S. At the same time, we don’t want to compromise on decoration. Can you please recommend which one we should opt for?

A: Concrete certainly works out to be a good enough choice for most home owners. This may make a good choice for the kitchen based on several factors and considerations. The one thing to consider even before you go in for the colors is the price range.

You can easily go in for a lighter color as concrete is resistant to scratches and heat. It comes in a variety of colors either in one shade or in color tints and hues. If both of you don’t want to settle on a single color, either dark or light, then the one’s with the color tints will be a good option.

We have seen people use concrete in the color tints mode and have had an extremely positive outcome to it.

You will need to guard it against hot stuff. Any kind of hot pots or pans on the surface can be toxic for it and make it crack. Perhaps, a darker shade will be able to camouflage this far better than the lighter ones.

There are plenty of dark shades starting from the darkest of teak and maple to walnut or mahogany. You might also want to consider the use of rich reddish browns which have really caught on big time. We have just completed a similar project for one of our clients. At first, they were a little hesitant to use reddish brown but at the end of the home remodeling project they worked out just right and looked fabulous too.

In case you will be able to care for the countertops in concrete really well then you could easily go ahead and consider them in beige or cream. However, keep in mind the cleaning and the maintenance required and match that with the lifestyle that you have. Whatever be the shade that you ultimately choose, ensure that it is the right match for all the other things around so as to merge effortlessly.
