When you go out side in the evening, after sunset, the neon signs start glowing and invite you wine, dine, rest, fill up your gas tank and what not. The variety of colors and shapes available in the neon signs and the uses of neon signs are just overwhelming. The huge signs blink at you and draw your attention to what the sign says. In fact, what neon signs say is what the owners wish to say and say it loudly. The question is how they do it. For a common person, any glow in any color is neon sign. That is strictly not true since the neon tubes (as we call them) may be filled up with Neon, Argon, Zeon, or even a tube may be coated with a powder that glows with a different color. Gas filled tube is a better nomenclature of these glow signs. The gas inside tubes is ionized, and this is what gives the color to neon sign.

The glass tubes can be bent in any shapes and the only thing that it requires to glow is introduction of gas and sealing of both ends. This can easily be done at the glass works and this is how the neon sign is made. The gas inside the tube and a high voltage transformer is all that is required for the tube to glow. It is a combination that has changed outdoor advertising in night. Neon clocks show you the time and other letters invite you to enter the hotels saying ‘it is time to eat“, “it is time to rest’ or “this is the time to spend your money” since some shop is selling you goods at a heavy discount. The tall lettering can only be made with neon signs.

The Future Of Neon Clocks

The future of neon clocks is good. Even with a technological advancement in all the fields there is no competition to neon clocks and neon signs. No company has found an answer to the neon clocks and neon tubes. The neon clocks would continue to rule the nighttime advertising as long as an alternative to neon tube is found. The future for neon tubes and neon clocks is as bright as the neon tubes themselves.
