saguaro cactus blossom, the giant of desert

Home

The saguaro cactus blossom could be named as well as the giant of desert. It is the monarch of cacti. If we want to see the fantastic saguaro we should go to the Sonora desert. In 1931 the Saguaro cactus blossom was taken into the floral emblem of Arizona. Since 1933 this giant is protected in Saguaro National Park in this territory.

The saguaro is thick, solid and fluted stem. Normally it has several branches. Waxy and smooth is its skin that is a big help to prevent water loss. Like this it can store water and it is able to flower although it doesn’t rain. It reaches easily a high of 50 feet and could live very well for about 200 years. During all this time some of the giant reach a ton of weight.

The flower of saguaro cactus is waxy white with a unique fragrance. Is very curious the life of its flowers. They open only at night with the cool temperature and are closed during the hot of midday. Only one night of life for them. Another interesting thing is what the saguaro gives. From its seeds that contain Arizonan and Alkaloids psychoactive substance, is taken wine and beer. After boiling the pulp down or fermented, is got some syrup that mixed with water or alcohol gives wine or saguaro beer. Nowadays is not necessary going to the desert to see it. It can be buy online. The saguaro cactus blossom is a plant to enjoy it very slowly.
